Applies to bicycles and EPACs used on standard, paved surfaces where the tires are expected to maintain contact with the ground at average speeds, with occasional drops.

Intended use:

Commuting and recreational riding at moderate intensity

No special riding skills required

Category 2

Trekking- and Touringbikes

Applies to bicycles and EPACs that fall under Category 1 and are also used on unpaved roads and gravel paths with moderate ascents and descents. Under these conditions, contact with uneven terrain and repeated loss of tire contact with the ground may occur. Drops are limited to 15 cm or less.

Intended use:

Recreational riding and trekking at a moderate pace

Recommended riding skills:

No special riding skills required

REGARD, REGARD AL, RELATE, TIGARD

Category 3

Cross-Country and Marathon Bikes

Applies to bicycles and EPACs that fall under Categories 1 and 2 and are also used on rough trails, uneven unpaved roads, difficult terrain, and undeveloped paths, and whose use requires technical skill. Jumps and drops should be less than 60 cm.

ATTENTION: Please note that if you use rear stands, fenders, luggage racks, or bicycle trailers (where permitted), your bike’s category is limited to Category 2.

Intended Use:

Sports and competitive riding on trails with moderate technical difficulty

Recommended Riding Skills:

Technical skills and practice required

The following models belong to this category:

JEALOUS, CRAGGER

Category 4

Mountain- and Trailbikes

Applies to bicycles and EPACs that fall under Categories 1, 2, and 3, or that are used for riding downhill on unpaved trails at speeds of less than 40 km/h. Jumps should be less than 120 cm.

ATTENTION: Please note that if you use rear stands, fenders, luggage racks, or bicycle trailers (where permitted), your bike’s category is limited to Category 2.

Intended Use:

Sports and competitive riding on trails with very challenging technical demands

Recommended Riding Skills:

Technical skills, practice, and bike control required

The following models belong to this category:

JAB, DEFT, RENDER, RECAP

Category 5

Downhill-, Dirtjump- and Freeridebikes

Applies to bicycles and EPACs classified in Categories 1, 2, 3, and 4 that are used for extreme jumps followed by landings on steep terrain or descents on unpaved trails at speeds exceeding 40 km/h, or for a combination thereof.

ATTENTION: Please note that if you use rear stands, fenders, racks, or bike trailers (where permitted), your bike’s category is limited to Category 2.

Intended Use:

Extreme sports

Recommended Riding Skills:

Extreme technical skills, practice, and bike control required

The following models belong to this category:

Road bikes, time trial bikes, and triathlon bikes

Applies to bicycles and EPACs that fall under Category 1 and are used in competitions or other events involving high speeds exceeding 50 km/h, such as descents and sprints.

Intended use:

High-intensity sports and competitive riding

Recommended riding skills:

Technical skills and practice required
