Video-Teaser: Ice climbers Matthias Scherer and Tanja Schmitt at 24h mtb-workout

16.10.2014

Alpinist and ice climber Matthias Scherer and his partner Tanja Schmitt prepares for a 24h-ice-climbin-project in upcoming winter. For fitness training the two athletes like to ride their Radon Bikes Radon Skeen and Radon Stage. The last weekend, both of them spent 24h on their bikes, the results: In 24h, Matthias rode a total of 8475 vertical meters and a distance of 201km, in the same time Tanja rode 7250 vertical meters and a distance of 175km. An integral part of the training were the cold temperatures on an altitude between 1600 and 2600 meters, partly under 0°. The athletes wanted to get used to extreme temperatures, in winter sometimes they climb at temperatures of -35°C. Scherer: "When riding a bike, the cold is even worse than at ice climbing, where you're moving constantly. When you're riding downhill, the cold sneaks into your fingers and the airstream cools you down."

One has to keep in mind: both of them are no professional bike riders, it was all about training. We think: great performance, keep on reaching for your goals!
