JBC 4X Revelations Czech Republic

02.09.2014

A crazy weekend it was!

Over 8.000 spectators came out to the JBC bikepark to see the world's fastest 4X athletes battle it our on a track only built for real men!

Our own former world champion Joost Wichman was on the gate. During qualification Joost sat on the hot seat for a very looooong time. At the end he only got beaten by the 2 locals, Tomas Slavik and Felix Beckeman.

Saturday's finals:

The day started off with a spectacular opening ceremony: Introducing the 4X stars to the CZ crowd with loud music, fireworks and the Red Bull flying bulls air show.

At 6 o'clock pm the live coverage on www.extreme.com started and it was race time! Joost won his 1/8 and 1/4 finals easily and made it to the semi final. Here things went completely wrong. For some reason Joost didn't hear the startgate and completely missed his gate and was in 4th place after the first turn. On the 2nd straight Joost tried to set up a move for pass in the woods, but unfortunately Hannes Slavik, the rider in front of Joost, had a terrible crash. Joost was right on his tail and so he saw the crash from a very close perspective. The crash looked so bad to him that Joost pulled over to make sure that Hannes got first aid as soon as possible. He soon got airlifted to the hospital. The last word on him was that he is doing okay, there are only some troubles with his visual faculty. At the end Joost ended up 6th overall.

Joost: "Hannes' crash looked so bad that I pulled over to help him and screamed for first aid. I am happy to hear that the last word is that he has no permanent injury. This track was brutal, in my eyes a cool, nice track to ride, but maybe too dangerous to race. I am happy I can walk away from this race without any big crashes. Apart from this, the event was great, 4X how it should be, a big show, big crowd and live coverage. Hands down for Tomas Slavik for pulling off such a great event, and also winning it.

Petrik Brueckner update: Last weeks midweek training crash forced Petrik to stay on the sideline for last weekend's EES race in Kronplatz. Medical checkup on his hand made clear that no bones are broken. It looks like Petrik will be back on the bike in a few days.
